Conformation
I swear that AKC conformation is one of the most difficult things to understand that
is out there today, short of nuclear physics.  At least it was that way for me, and I'm
still learning some of the finer points.

The short description is that each breed is divided into classes, and in "the
classes" the dogs and the bitches are shown separately, dogs first.  The first place
dogs from each class go back in the ring for Winners Dog, and Winners Dog gets
points towards their championship based on how many dogs he defeated.  Then
they do the same thing with the bitches.  Then they bring all the "specials" into the
ring (those that already have a championship) along with Winners Dog and
Winners Bitch and the judge chooses Best of Breed (BOB) Best of Opposite Sex
(BOS) and Best of Winners (BOW).  Whoever wins BOB goes on to compete again
against all the BOB winners from the Hound Group (called Going to Group) and the
first place dog in the Group goes on to compete for Best in Show.  Clear as mud?

My next project is to get all the dogs registered with the
United Kennel Club (UKC)
and start learning about their conformation rules.
