Mia's ASFA certification story

What an adventure! Here's the play by play:
We got lost on the way there but managed to arrive at 8:15. They were still
setting up the course so no dogs ran until 10:00. Within 5 minutes of us
being there, London had two ticks on her - so we knew it was going to be
a long day! Where were 8 Whippets there and London was in the 3rd heat
with 1 other whippet. After the first run, London had 77 points and was in a
3 way tie for first. I was absolutely amazed! After the second run, London
got a 76 and was in a run off for 3rd-4th. London was so tired that her
turns got a little sloppy during the run off - so we took home 4th place and
8 points! Not bad for an over weight whippet that was just there to have fun!
Then comes Mia. Mia ran her cert with Dafney (Becki's dog - LickedySplit
Whippets). Dafney's handler released Dafney early and Mia started
chasing her instead of the lure. Mia stopped in the middle of the course
and turned and looked at us like "What am I doing out here?" So that run
was a bust!
They let us run Mia again. Due to the lack of available whippets, we ran
Mia with London. I know that's risky since London isn't always so friendly
with Mia - but they ran beautifully together. Like they had been practicing
that run for months... So Mia got her ASFA Cert!
We let Mia do a practice run with another dog - which ended up being a
mistake! Half way through the course, the other dog came up from behind
Mia on a turn and bit her! The other dog tried to snap at Mia again when
they were at the end of the course tearing at the bags, but Mia simply told
her off... Mia had blood running down her leg and I Don and I went into
panic mode. But it was just a small puncture and after a good cleaning,
scabbed right over.
We aren't sure how comfortable Mia is going to be at the next event. I don't
know if she's going to worry about getting bit again whenever a dog comes
from behind on a turn. I guess we just have to wait and see.
I know that was a long email - but I'm just so happy with how well they both
did, I had to share the WHOLE story. :-)
