We've all heard of 'empty nest' syndrome. I seem to suffer from 'empty crate' syndrome. Ruby came to fill that empty crate after Paulette died. Ruby has turned out to be more than I had any reasonable hope that she would be. She has over a dozen Best in Fields spread pretty evenly between AKC and ASFA, finished her Field Champion titles easily. She now has all her placements towards her ASFA LCM, it's just hard to find competition to get the points and she has 44 of the 45 points needed for her LCX-2. She's easy to live with (she thinks she's a Whippet) and easy on the eyes. She will be seen selectively in the conformation ring in 2009 if there's nothing better to do. Ruby graduated from her beginner obedience class on July 2, 2007 and we started the Canine Good Citizen and a Rally obedience class in August. However, just three weeks into the classes she came in season. In spite of the limited training, I showed her in Rally Novice B at the GCA National on September 26, 2007 earning her first RN leg and getting second place in the class. She passed the Canine Good Citizen test at the Greyhound Reach the Beach event in October 2007. We got her second and third RN legs in November 2007 to finish her RN title. She completed a pre-novice obedience class in December 2007 and then took a break in training until October 2008 when she got back into class. I'm hoping we make enough progress to show her in Novice obedience at the GCA Eastern Regional in September of 2009 and we may even try some Rally Advanced entries between now and then.
Ruby was proud to be a volunteer blood donor (or maybe she just enjoyed all the cookies she got when she donated?)
Ruby's picture was selected for the cover of the 2009 Pet Prints Greyhound calendar! and she got selected for the 2010 Willow Creek Greyhound calendar as well
