| Hard to say exactly when Shelby started to catch my eye, but I'm guessing it was about the time he was 7 or 8 weeks old. Can't say exactly why, but I really wanted to hold on to him to see how he grew up. Leslie Carroll solved that problem for me - she just couldn't let this puppy go to anyone else. So Shelby went with his sister Rosa to live in PA with a house full of Borzoi, one Ibizan and a couple of other Whippets. In his first time in the conformation ring, after two 5 minute sessions of leach training, he ended up loosing to his sister, Rosa. No harm in that! After watching him grow up he has turned into a very sweet boy, who does not like to be too far from the 'safety' of Mom or Dad and we have been unable to get him to chase a lure more than a few yards. Therefore, since chasing a lure IS what the breed was created to do, he's not going to be part of my breeding program and I've decided to make him available to a loving home. While we're waiting for just the right home for Shelby, we have completed a puppy beginner obedience class where he learned how to 'sit' and 'down' although his recall still needs work! Now we're attending a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class and at the end of this 8 week class I expect he will pass the CGC test. He has already come a long way towards paying attention to me. |
