Weight Pulls
| Weight pull competitions are like nothing else I've been to. I've only been to a couple, since Zuli figured out real quick that I didn't REALLY have food in my hand and she decided it wasn't worth the effort to pull. That's a sighthound for you, and particularly a Saluki! I hope to try some actual training with her this spring and see if I can't actually get her to enjoy doing it. There are two main organizations the put on weight pulls, the UKC (United Kennel Club) and the IWPA (International Weight Pull Association). I've only been exposed to the UKC type, and I was told that to get the first level title, the dog only had to pull 8 times their weight at three different pulls with different judges. The dogs did get weighed at each event and 8 times that weight was calculated. |
