September 29, 2007 - SHOT trial
Up early again for the 5th day in a row, I am insane, really. Got the dogs all fed & then we were on the road again for the SHOT trial in Williamsburg, VA. It was about an hour and forty-five minute drive from David & Jennifer's house to the trial site, and we made it in plenty of time; even had time to stop for coffee and a bag of ice.
I had Greyhound Ruby and Whippets Aren, Kira, Derby & Nero entered so I was one very busy handler. Luckily enough I only had one back to back course in both the preliminaries and the finals, and that was Aren (in the Special stake) and Kira (in veterans) Everyone ran well & Derby ended up in a 7 way tie for 3rd place. After the run-offs brother Ripley won the points for 3rd and Derby was 4th. Not bad. Then to top it off Ruby ran with a Basenji for Best in Field, but the Basenji didn't even get to the first pulley before he turned around & came back to his owner. Ruby blew a pad 3/4 of the way through the course and she almost stopped running, we all said "Uh-Oh" at the same time when we saw her slow up. But since the Basenji didn't even try to run the course Ruby won another Best in Field. After the trial Nero got to run with another dog in a certification run, and he did well, no lameness or soreness at all. That was good considering that he's not run in about three years. Bagel got to do about 200 yards in a square and she had a blast! ~~Joanne 2007-10-11 18:51:16 GMT
