Jaytea Whippets - activities and happenings
Saturday, October 20th, 2007 - NOTRA
Drove up to Marlton, NJ to run dogs in GSSA's all breed NOTRA meet.

I made an assumption about roll call, and like most assumptions, it was wrong.  Thankfully it meant that I arrived over an hour early instead of an hour late.  As a result I pitched in and helped set up the track which was a change for me, as I'm usually pulling in at the very last minute to run to make roll call.

Mainly I wanted to give Zuli the opportunity to earn points towards her oval race title, as every year that goes by makes it harder with new young dogs all the time.   Last time I was at one of their NOTRA meets there weren't enough Whippets to make an official meet (you need 15) so I only ran Ruby & Zuli and it was a very nice relaxed day.  NOT THIS TIME.  We had 20 Whippets including my 4, so I couldn't pull any of them without breaking the points.  Needless to say I had a very busy day, running 6 dogs!

It was all worth it at the end of the day as Avery got some good experience - she almost learned to come out the front of the starting box!  We had quite the good laugh at her as each program she'd get herself turned around in the box so that when it opened, she came out backwards and everyone had quite the head start on her.

But Zuli did get 1 point towards her title, bringing her total to 5.5 out of the 12 she needs, and much to my surprise, Ruby got 1.5 points as well, as she put on a burst of speed at the end of her third race to tie with another Greyhound for 3rd place in the meet.  I was very surprised and pleased.
