In spite of oversleeping this morning, we still managed to get to Ft. Mott, NJ in time to make roll call for the JRRWA ASFA trial, but only because they got a late start! I had Aren & Derby entered in the field champion stake and put Kira in the Veterans stake where she could run by herself. I knew there would be a big Saluki entry since Jeff Lipps was one of the judges this weekend, so I had Zuli entered. Ruby was one of two Greyhounds running.
Aren finished up in next to last place, but Derby managed to win the field champion stake and then ended up Best of Breed when the Open dog forfeited and of course I forfeited Kira for BOB before I even knew who she would run against. Ruby won Best of Breed over the other Greyhound giving her 8 points towards her LCM for the day. Zuli was one of 6 field champions entered, and she managed to win the stake, although her toe had swollen up again after the prelims. I put ice on it and gave her a Rimadyl to try to take the swelling down and it worked enough so that she could run for Best of Breed with the one Open dog so he would have a chance at the qualifying placement and the extra points. I could see that she was not running her best in the breed run and when the judge tied them, I forfeited her. Neither Jeff Lipps or I knew if that would still give the open dog the points or not I really felt that I didn't have a choice. The 24 points she earned for placing first brought her over the half way mark towards earning her LCM and for that I am happy. I don't know if we'll ever get the 300 points she needs or not, but we'll keep chipping away at it. It was a very nice day and the pizza for lunch really hit the spot! ~~Joanne 2008-11-18 17:49:36 GMT
