Another vacation day and another obedience entry.  It was the first day of a four day cluster of dog shows at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship, Maryland and the only day there was obedience offered.  My friends John & Carol Huff were there each with one Whippet entered so it was a nice day spent with friends.  There was a cold steady rain all day and of course I was parked a distance away that seemed like miles.

Since there was no Rally at this show, Kira was the only one I had entered.   It was a good thing that I had such a good weekend last week as today we came home with nothing.  But today was a first, we walked into the ring for our turn & Kira promptly squatted & peed.  Since eliminating in the ring is an automatic NQ, we were out of it before we even started.  :(((

The judge was very kind & after they came and cleaned up after her, he let me go through the individual exercises anyway and we would have qualified on that.  She did the best figure 8 that she's ever done in competition, I didn't feel the lead go tight even once.  Of course she then broke her sit stay and came across the ring to me which she hasn't done in a year.  Carol Huff was in the same set of stays as we were & her comment was that Kira did NOT look right.

Unfortunately it was late enough in the day that I couldn't get home to our regular vet before they closed, but as I was getting close to the Bay Bridge, I remembered that Dr. Dahle's office was right there on Kent Island and that Dr. Sandy (our chiropractor) works there too.  So I called & Dr. Sandy was able to see us.  As I suspected, Kira has a UTI and we left there with a 10 day supply of anti-biotics and the hope that once that's cleared up she'll be able to sit comfortably enough to do her stays!

Live and learn.
