Up and out early - hit rain going North to Ringoes, NJ for the Lehigh Valley Coursing Club's first ASFA trial. But new fields are few and far between and I do like to support new clubs.
BOY, was it a mess when I got there! Started up the gravel road & started to get stuck, thankfully with a push from a couple of other attendees I managed to back out and was able to park on the shoulder (paved) of the road. Certainly not my favorite thing to do with traffic wizzing by, but there wasn't any other choice. From the road, I had to slog through the cold rain and the mud up over the hill and down to the field. It seemed like miles. This was one of those days when I didn't have much fun, and I seriously considered just packing up and heading home, but I didn't since I'd already paid entry fees for 5 dogs. It was the first time I implemented my Saluki ASFA strategy - I'd entered Zuli in the veterans stake where she had competition and she did manage to win the Stake so she has one of the required two first placements towards her Veterans Field Championship. I thought I'd see if I can't pick up the two placements now while she's a 'young' veteran and then put her back in the Field Champion stake to see if we can't accumulate enough points for her LCM. We'll see how that works. Ruby was the only Greyhound there, so she got her 4 points towards her LCM. Kira also ran in the veteran stake and finished 2nd of 2, for 6 points, and Derby finished in the points in the Field Champion stake. Aren was the only dog I ran that didn't end up with points. I declined to run for Best in Field as it wouldn't get me any more points, and we headed for home - I was covered with mud up to my knees and had various paw prints all over the rest of me, I was a sight! By the time we got home, my jeans had dried and the mud had made them so stiff that they stood up by themselves! All my clothes went straight into the washer and then the dryer before we all went to bed. Slogging through that mud all day really wore me completely out! ~~Joanne 2008-11-26 22:01:47 GMT
