December 30, 2008
My next to last use-it or loose-it vacation day, and I crammed it chock full of activities. Started out in the morning doing tracking training with my friend Kris. Today we went to one of the local elementary schools as the kids are all on Christmas break. It was much warmer than the last time we trained, but the issue we ran into was those pesky sand burrs! had to stop several times in the middle of the track to remove the stickers from Zuli's paws. Ouch! I know they hurt as I got one in my heel while I was laying the track just to remind me. Zu did the first track pretty well, but we moved on the other side of the building for our second track and didn't run into any burrs over there. Zuli's second track was a very interesting training opportunity - about half way through the track she lost the scent & circled around behind me and started back down the track. Eventually she found the track & started forward again and finished the track nicely. I thought it was a really good learning opportunity and I was hoping she learned something from the experience.
After taking Zuli home, I went back out & met Mom & Carol for lunch after their hair appointments. What a treat to spend time with them on a week day and not have to worry about getting back to work! After lunch I came back home and picked Aren up & ran him over to the vet for a chiropractic adjustment. All summer I've been thinking that his poor running results were because of his Lyme Disease and I was SURE that I was going to have to re-treat him. However, all his lab work came back good, so the vet suggested that he might need to be adjusted again. So that's what we did. The vet did comment that Aren had a good bit of tightness in his upper back, neck and his jaw and in his flexor muscles in his front legs. I can see that he'll need to be adjusted multiple times over the winter before the adjustment will actually hold. Took Aren back home after his appointment & went right back out to get my hair cut and permed. I always enjoy the time I spend at Connie's getting my hair done & catching up on all the gosip going around Beautiful Downtown Delmar, Delaware. It's like turning on a Soap Opera that you don't usually watch and you don't know any of the characters or their history. <G> I left there and drove directly to Rehoboth, DE to the outlets over there. Really wanted to pick up some Under Armour to wear under my jeans the next time I go tracking. Want to be warm! Got there just before they closed, but managed to pick up two pairs for me and one pair for Kris (per her request) - filled up my gas tank at $1.41 per gallon over there, the lowest price I've seen in YEARS! Ended up going by the grocery store on my way home & finally got back home about 9:30! Certainly not a restful day off, but a quite productive one. ~~Joanne 2009-01-07 04:54:24 GMT
