| I started racing as a way to get some good solid exercise for my dogs on weekends when we weren't lure coursing. I still don't have dogs fast enough to win race meets, but then they don't care. It does require a bit of training to get them used to the starting box, and wearing a muzzle. The first time I put a muzzle on my first Whippet, Parker, he pawed at it first with his right foot and then with his left foot, and then both front feet at the same time, and he ended up nose down in the dirt. Funniest thing I'd ever seen a dog do. Parker ran in his last official WRA race meet at the grand old age of 14-1/2, in March of 2006 and he wasn't last by all that much. |
